Abstract:
This study was conduct to investigate the effect of humanitarian logistics management
practices on emergency response in the case of Red Cross Association Society, Addis
Ababa, which measures in terms of Humanitarian Logistics Coordination,
Communication & Information Sharing, and Transport Infrastructure. The purpose of
the study was intended to investigate how humanitarian logistics management affects
the emergency response in the case study. It was also probing the other factors that
contribute effective emergency response. In methodology, explanatory research
design was applied in the context of the study. Questionnaire was as the formal
instrument of data collection, closed ended questionnaire was distributed to Red
Cross Association Society Humanitarian Organization employees. A quantitative type
of research approach was followed to exploit the advantages of quantitative methods.
A Simple random sampling technique was adapted under the study. Yamen’s sample
size determination formula was used to draw the sample size. The collected data were
analyzed by using a multiple regression model which was used in the study in order to
determine different relationships among variables, dependent variable, and
independent variables. Besides, the data were analyzed by descriptive statistics
through mean, SD, chart, percentage by applying IBM SPSS Version 29 Software.
Finally, the validity and reliability of the data were considered. The major findings of
the study are Humanitarian Logistics management practices at Red Cross Association
Society in terms of Logistics coordination, communication & Information sharing and
Transport infrastructure is good as compared with standards of mean value. Besides,
among the major variables, Humanitarian Logistics Coordination, communication &
Information sharing and Transport infrastructure have positive and statistically
significant effect on Emergency Response. Therefore, the Red Cross Association
Society in particular and the humanitarian aid organizations in general must keep the
current practices of logistics management during the emergency response in the
disaster’s situations
