Abstract:
The major objective of the study was to investigate the determinants of export performance of the
garment export industry in the case of Debre Birhan Industry Park. The study used a quantitative
research approach methodologies. Besides, a descriptive and explanatory research design was
used. The researcher used a stratified random sampling method from each department. Then,
after the sample size of each stratum was calculated, a simple random sampling method was
used to select respondents from each stratum. The study also used primary data sources and the
data collection instrument was structured close-ended survey questionnaires using the five-point
Likert scale adopted from different scholars in previous studies. In this study both descriptive
and inferential statistics such as mean, standard deviation, correlation, and multiple regression
analysis were used through SPSS Version 26 software. The research findings indicate that
several factors significantly influence the export performance of the garment export industry in
Debre Birhan Industry Park. Supply chain factors, skills factors, labor productivity factors,
compliance factors, and market access all have a positive and statistically significant effect on
export performance. However, the effect of infrastructure constraints factors on export
performance is not statistically significant. In conclusion to enhance export performance
industry stakeholders should focus on improving supply chain efficiency, investing in skills
development, promoting labor productivity, and ensuring compliance with regulations.
Additionally, efforts should be made to expand market access opportunities for the industry.
However, it is important to address infrastructure constraints to further facilitate the growth and
competitiveness of the sector. The study recommends that policymakers and industry
stakeholders focus on strengthening these key determinants to boost the export competitiveness
of the garment sector.
